Sometimes I cook...

and other tall tales from the Ipson household
Actually, I really do cook. At least 4 out of 7 nights a week. Which is pretty good for me. You see, somehow the cooking gene has skipped my generation...or specifically (and more honestly), ME within my generation of the family. Well, maybe I should say that the dislike of cooking gene has skipped a generation, 'cause my grandma doesn't like to cook either. So maybe instead of generational skips, Mom just had a gene mutation that Andrea and Sean inherited. But I digress. I don't really like to cook. I do like the feeling of satisfaction in providing a good meal. And we have to eat. So I cook. But they are usually pretty simple good old fashioned type of meals. Landon doesn't like fancy meals, anyway. He's a man's man, a meat and potatoes kind of guy, you see.
Well. This week, I had this strange desire to try and make P.F. Chang's lettuce wraps. 'There has to be copy cat recipes on the Internet,' I reasoned. And I was right. So that got me excited, and I started looking for more copy cat recipes. Let me tell you, grocery shopping was a blast. I felt so sophisticated placing fancy cheeses, prosciuto, rice noodles, spices I've never used before, fresh herbs, etc., in my cart (despite the fact that I kept calling my mom to ask her where I could find things, if white grape juice really was a substitute for white wine, and if rice vinegar was the same thing as rice wine vinegar). And I tried out my first one on Thursday, as a surprise for Landon. Carrabba's Pollo Rosa Maria. And it was GOOD. Disclaimer: It didn't taste like the restaurant's dish, but we still really liked it. So I thought I'd share the joy.
I'll let you know how the lettuce wraps go...
