ANOTHER quick shout-out

September is a busy month for us.

First, just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my brother-in-law Matt!

He just turned 23 today. There's nobody quite like Matt. He was on his mission in Cape Verde (Africa) when Landon and I met and got married, so all I knew about him was from stories the family would tell. Everybody adored Matt. Any time we talked about him, Kimmie (Landon's sister) would say "Matt's SO COOL!" I was so nervous to meet him when he came home! I thought he'd be "too cool" for me! But I think we've gotten used to each other and get along pretty well! :) Matt is a lot of fun to have around. Nothing is ever boring when he is there! And Dallin LOVES him. He always makes all kinds of crazy faces to make Dallin laugh...and consequently, we all do.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT!

And another shout-out.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little brother Sean! Yep, Matt and Sean share a birthday. Sean, however, turned 20 today. My parents no longer have any teenagers! Sean-a-ron is on his mission in the Netherlands right now. He's been out for just over 9 months. Missions are not common occurences on either side of our family, and I can't tell you how much Sean being on a mission means to us. We're all so proud of him we can hardly stand it.

An unknown number of years ago, I started calling Sean "Goober." It just stuck. Now I hardly ever call him Sean (unless I'm upset with him!). And the cool thing is, he totally doesn't mind. I think he kinda likes that I have a special nickname for him! And even if I called him that in front of his friends, he didn't care. That's one thing I always loved about Sean as a teenager: he was never embarassed by his family, like a lot of teenagers are.

Sean LOVES LOVES LOVES hunting, fishing and water polo. He grew up hunting and fishing with my dad, and now I think he loves it more than Dad does! He used to read Cabela's catalogs like they were novels. He'd make lists and lists of things he wanted and things he thought they needed. I really think he memorized them! When I was helping Mom pack up the last few things in his room in preparation for their move (no, it still hasn't happened), we found notebooks FULL of those lists. It made me smile.

He played water polo all through high school. They took State his sophomore year. Though I REALLY didn't enjoy seeing my brother in a Speedo, it was fun to watch him play something he was so passionate about. He also did swimming, but he claims he only did that to stay in shape for polo. Even so, watching Michael Phelps in the Olympics this summer reminded me of my long, lean swimmer of a brother.

When Dallin was first born, and I was in Utah and Landon was here in Oregon, Dal had jaundice. He had to be in a lightbox with goggles over his eyes ALL the time, unless he was being fed and diapered. He would cry and cry, so I would cry and cry. Sean spent some time watching over Dallin for me. He's a great uncle.

I miss him! And I know he can't read this, but all the same, I wanted to tell you all that he is a great kid. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEAN!
