(It's a dehydrator.)
I've been feeling for some time that I needed to focus more on eating healthy and building up our food storage. Well, thanks to a new friend of mine, I discovered a blog I love to read and that subsequently led me to Safely Gathered In, a terrific blog all about food storage. That has given me the kick in the pants I've needed.
In addition to that, I found a gift a dear former YW leader gave me when Dallin was born. It was a cookbook of sorts. I skimmed it and promptly forgot about it. However, a couple weeks ago when I was trying to come up with a menu for the week, I pulled it out with my other cookbooks and started flipping through it again. And maybe it's the Eugene coming out in me (buy it or find it at the library and you'll see what I mean), but I'm really excited about it.
So here's to eating healthy and planning for the unknown future!

Good for you for thinking about food storage! It must be a trend....Katie and I have been having similar thoughts lately. I never thought much about it until I had Adam and now I feel the pressure to get food put away in case we need it. There's nothnig like a baby that is totally dependant on you to keep alive to make you want to be prepared! :)
You go! I use the excuse that I have no where to put food storage... one of these days I'll wise up :)

Brings back memories of living in Seattle and canning peaches. I would put Heather in a swing (which in those days had to be cranked by hand) which would swing for 20 minutes, she would go to sleep and wake up when the swing stopped, so I would have to wash my hands (sticky peach goo), crank it back up, tell her everything was OK and wash my hands again and go back to canning, repeating this procedure 20 times. Since we now live in earthquake prone Utah, I decided that the glass jars would fall off the shelves and break, so I buy metal canned goods (I thought it was a great excuse). Heather grew up with dried fruit from the dehyrators that I had...I once (and once only) dried watermelon...a 3 lb. watermelon yielded the sweetest morsels that fit into a 2 cup measuring cup! Strawberries are great dried...use a tomato slicer to cut them with. Good luck to all of you!!!!
